How does coaching work?

In my work, I take a holistic approach and work as a systemic coach. This means that you and your issue are never viewed in isolation, but are always integrated into the wider context, such as your working environment or your family. This enables me to develop realistic and viable solutions that can be implemented in our complex everyday lives and are sustainable.

Based on my degree in psychology, my further training and my professional and management experience, I have a wide range of tools and methods at my disposal to support you as a systemic coach in achieving your goals. This includes conversational therapy methods, creative techniques, practical exercises and the use of psychological test procedures. The selection is made individually and in consultation with you.

In systemic coaching, it is common for very personal issues to be discussed. As a qualified psychologist, I am bound to confidentiality in accordance with § 203 StGB. Furthermore, I am committed to the ethical guidelines of the Association of German Psychologists (BDP) and the coaching association DBVC.

When is coaching useful?

Working with a systemic coach is one of the most effective and efficient methods for targeted development as a manager. 

While training, for example, tends to impart general specialist knowledge, the 1:1 situation in systemic coaching makes it possible to respond precisely and specifically to your wishes and needs.

Systemic coaching is particularly worthwhile if you have been trying to develop a solution to a problem yourself for a while, but realize that you are not making much progress on your own. It is also often helpful to reflect with a neutral confidant before making far-reaching decisions or major changes.

What are typical questions in coaching?

In principle, systemic coaching is a suitable instrument for all individuals who want to develop further and are willing to change. It is often used as an instrument in management development.

Frequent occasions for systemic coaching are

  • Taking on a new (management) role

  • Conflicts in the team

  • Questions about further career development

  • Difficulties in the work-life balance

  • Making difficult decisions

These are just examples. Your individual concern may or may not fall into one of these categories.

How does the coaching process work?

  • The coaching process begins with an introductory meeting. You tell me about your concerns and can ask me any questions about myself and my working methods. Here it is important for both sides to see "whether the chemistry is right" and whether a collaboration seems promising. The introductory meeting is non-binding, free of charge and lasts approx. 30 minutes.
  • The subsequent systemic coaching sessions usually last 60 to 90 minutes. In the first session, we will formulate your question and set specific goals to be achieved through systemic coaching.
  • The intervals at which further sessions take place and how many are required to deal with your problem vary greatly from person to person. As a rule, however, significant progress can be achieved in just 3-5 sessions.
  • Ongoing support is also possible, as is a reflection session to check the transfer and implementation of what has been discussed.
  • Occasionally I will give you small tasks to do between sessions or recommend further reading as required.
  • Our sessions will mainly take place online. I recommend that these are not held at the workplace, but in a neutral and protected location.

Coaching is not psychotherapy and cannot replace it. Should it become apparent during our sessions that therapeutic support would be more suitable for you, I will be happy to recommend you to a contact from my network.

Coaching is not a self-runner. As the expert for your individual concerns and your personal life situation, you are the driving force and essential pillar for finding solutions and activating resources. I will support and accompany you in this process, but I can only do this successfully with your active cooperation.

Coaching is no guarantee of immediate satisfaction! Implementing sustainable change takes time and energy.
